CARRUM: Man found dead after house fire

A man has been found dead after a fire engulfed a Carrum home.

Four fire trucks were called to a unit in Carrum, in the city’s south, at 10.45am on Sunday to find the property on fire.

‘‘It was well alight when they got there,’’ a state control spokeswoman said.

Firefighters managed to put out the blaze on Stanley Street within minutes, but a body was later discovered as they were searching the property.

It’s not known if man, believed to be in his 50s, died before or after the fire started.

Investigators are not treating the fire as suspicious. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner. 

No one else was injured in the fire.

A cause of the fire has not been established.
