Firefighters have tackled a blaze in a Werribee fish and chip shop, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby businesses.
Smoke was first spotted billowing out of the shop on Watton Street in Werribee just before 4am on Thursday, prompting calls to call triple-0.
A Country Fire Authority spokesman said a total of seven fire trucks had to be called in to battle the growing fire.

“There was fairly extensive damage,” he said.
The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes and did not spread to any other businesses, he said.
No one was injured in the fire.
A cause has not yet been established.
