A kindergarten’s pet rabbit has been found decapitated and its guinea pig killed in Thornbury.
Staff found the animals on Tuesday morning when they arrived at the Smith Street Early Learning Centre in Thornbury.
The black-and-grey miniature rabbit, called Ebony, had been decapitated, and staff found its head buried under a mound of dirt in the vegetable patch. Its body was later found in the play area.
The black-and-white guinea pig, Piggy, was also found buried.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Kelly Yates said the pets were killed about midnight on Monday, when the offender or offenders broke into the kindergarten by climbing over its high fence.
Both animals were kept at the kindergarten as pets for the children.
