VTCA: Coaching coup for Keilor Cricket Club

The Keilor Cricket Club has landed a recruiting coup in signing Sri Lankan international player Kaushal Lokuarachchi as captain and coach for the next two seasons.

The 32-year-old played in four Tests, 21 one-day internationals and two T20 fixtures during his time in the Sri Lankan national program.

Lokuarachchi will bat in the top order for Keilor and bowl leg spin.

The addition of an international player is a great boost for Keilor which finished 11th in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association’s senior division competition last season. Keilor president Peter Delbridge said Lokuarachchi’s signing was another step in his club’s aim of becoming the best in Melbourne.

“Getting a player of Kaushal’s credentials as our playing coach will create an environment of excellence,” Delbridge said.

“We want to be the team of choice in Melbourne’s north. We want to be renowned as the club that has the best environment for elite training, development, facilities and positive family culture.”

Lokuarachchi is joining Keilor at the right time with the club’s home base at Keilor

Recreation Reserve having been fully redeveloped in the past year.

Delbridge said the combination of outstanding facilities and an international coach would provide a great training environment for the club’s exciting batch of young players.

Lokuarachchi will begin his role with the club in July for pre-season training.
