Sunshine fire: Mum and daughter escape after hearing explosion

A Sunshine mother and daughter escaped a fire at their Donald Street home after hearing a loud explosion from a circuit breaker on Wednesday night.

They safely evacuated to a neighbour’s house to raise the alarm around 8pm.

The fire is believed to have started in the roof space, causing significant  damage to the top floor of the two-storey townhouse.

The remainder of the home has been severely damage by smoke and water.

MFB firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 25 minutes and stop it spreading to the adjoining townhouse.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
