Three new sculptures will be installed in Sunshine’s CBD at a cost of almost $130,000.
The works, by renowned New South Wales sculptor Col Henry, will be located at Sunshine railway station’s bus interchange, a centre median on Hampshire Road, and in public open space in Sunshine’s town centre.
“We anticipate installation of the three artworks before the end of the financial year,” Brimbank council well-being director Neil Whiteside said.
The sculptures, resembling space-age street lights, have been designed following consultation with residents and the Sunshine Business Association.
The bus interchange sculpture, near City Place, will provide a marker for pedestrians and be seen by commuters as they descend the stairs when leaving Sunshine railway station. Images collected during community consultation will be placed on the lower section of each column of the sculptures. Henry has previously been commissioned to complete works for James Cook University in Townsville and Marcellin College in Sydney’s Randwick.
