Deer Park came out on top of Werribee Districts in Saturday’s top-of-the-table Western Region Football League clash.
The Lions were too strong for the Tigers in a tough contest, leading at the end of every quarter to secure a 17-point win, 15.12 (102) to 13.7 (85).
Up forward, it was a battle of the big goalkickers as the Lions’ James Wong went head to head with the Tigers’ Andrew Panayi.
It was Panayi who came out on top, finishing with eight goals.
But Wong was far from disgraced, kicking seven to continue his golden run in recent weeks. Wong has booted 33 goals in the past five matches.
Around the ground, Daniel Cooper and Luke Summers were impressive for Deer Park.
The result tightened Deer Park’s stranglehold on division 1’s top spot.
The Lions are three games clear with a perfect 11-0 record.
Werribee Districts remains second, with Spotswood third.
Deer Park takes on seventh-placed Albion (4-7) this Saturday.
The Cats will be looking to bounce back after being smashed by St Albans by 87 points.
Sunshine is in huge danger of missing the finals after a 52-point loss to Hoppers Crossing at Kinder Smith Reserve.
The Warriors won 15.15 (105) to 7.11 (53) after leading by 41 points at half-time.
The Kangaroos fell to 4-7 and are two games outside the top five.
