Matthew Spiteri is wearing his heart on his sleeve and hoping to get others to do the same.
The 31-year-old Taylors Hill resident will be hosting a charity dinner-dance next month to raise vital funds for the Heart Foundation.
It’s a charity that Mr Spiteri is all too familiar with, having battled heart problems all his life.
He had open heart surgery only a few days after being born and had had three such surgeries by the age of three.
Since turning 16, he has also experienced rapid heart rhythms every few months. When this occurs, he has to go to the hospital for his heart to be shocked back into a regular rhythm.
Last year, the DJ hosted his first charity dinner dance and raised more than $4000.
He now wants to make it an annual event and hopes to beat last year’s total.
The Genesis Entertainment Charity event will be held on August 9 at the Taylors Lakes Hotel. Tickets are $65, which, apart from the dance, provides a buffet dinner and dessert, beer, wine and soft drink.
Money raised through tickets, raffles and auctions will be donated to the Heart Foundation. Businesses wanting to be involved in the event can contact Mr Spiteri on djgenesis_ent@hotmail.com.
