Rapt with White Ribbon in fight against family violence

Close to 100 people from community groups and businesses helped promote respectful relationships and raise awareness of domestic violence at a breakfast at the Visy Care Hub in Sunshine last Thursday.

Several people took a stand against family violence by taking the White Ribbon oath, while the breakfast also served as a collecting point for urgently needed items for the McAuley Community Services for Women, which provides accommodation for women and children at risk.

One local trader donated a bike.

A lawyer with Maurice Blackburn in Sunshine, Sarah Millen, said one in three Australian women had experienced physical violence since the age of 15.

“Family violence remains a widespread – though often hidden problem – both in our community here in Sunshine and right across the country,” she said.
