Brimbank’s refugee promise there for all to see

All Brimbank council buildings will bear a reminder that the area is welcoming of all people, regardless of their origin.

The council last week reaffirmed its all-encompassing attitude to cultures far and wide by unveiling signs welcoming refugees at the main entrance of Sunshine’s Visy Cares Hub.

Celebrations included a presentation by Abe Nouk, poet, author and director of youth mentoring organisation Creative Rebellion Youth, and performances by South Sudanese dancers and by Vietnamese refugee, illustrator and children’s author Bic Walker.

Council chairman John Watson said the signs, to be rolled out across Brimbank, were a public statement that the city upheld the human rights of refugees and valued their contributions.
