Caroline Springs car fire: Owner’s partner arrested

UPDATE: A Caroline Springs car fire in the early hours on Monday was an act following a domestic dispute, police have revealed.

Detective Acting Sergeant Chris Egan from Melton Crime Investigation Unit told Star Weekly that the owner’s partner had been arrested and interviewed in regards to the car fire and was expected to be charged at a later date.

“It’s family violence, domestic related,” Detective Acting Sergeant Egan said.

Neighbours were woken by a series of loud bangs about 2.30am on Monday when a car burst into flames in an off-street car park at a block of townhouses in Cobaw Circuit.

The black Holden Commodore, which had specialised number plates, was alight from the car bonnet and was close to other cars and one of the townhouses.

A quick-thinking CFA officer who lived nearby started extinguishing the flames and moving surrounding cars from the scene.

He was quickly joined by fellow CFA and MFB officers, who extinguished the fire. The car is a write-off, with its front destroyed by the fire.

Four CFA and MFB crews were in attendance.

No damage was caused to the other cars or the townhouses.
