Pedestrian deaths on Brimbank roads have doubled in the past year with the Brimbank Highway Patrol calling on residents and drivers to take more care.
Victorian police statistics reveal 60 pedestrians have been involved in reported collisions in Brimbank, including 23 resulting in serious injury, over the past 18 months.
TAC statistics also reveal four pedestrian deaths during the past year to June, all involving men over the age of 50, following two in 2012 and 2011.
The majority of incidents have been on main roads including Ballarat Road, Main Road West, McIntyre Road and Taylors Road.
Star Weekly revealed last month two men in their 50s died on May 21 and 22 respectively following incidents on Ballarat Road.
Andy Oakley of Brimbank Highway Patrol said residents needed to take more care, especially at night. “Pedestrians should cross roads at traffic lights or crossings and if they are out walking … they should wear light coloured or reflective clothing,” he said.
