Paul Roos has agreed to a third year as coach of Melbourne, meaning he will remain in charge until the end of 2016.
The Demons have confirmed Roos has elected to take up a third year. He had initially agreed to a two-year deal.
While the Demons are second-last on the ladder, they have made considerable progress in their first year under the former Swans premiership coach.
They have four wins – two more than last year – and have improved their percentage.
Roos said last week he was unsure whether to accept a third year because of family reasons but made up his mind over the bye weekend.
He has said he will coach the Demons for no longer than three years, with the club still searching for a successor.
Former Geelong skipper Cameron Ling, who has yet to confirm whether he will drop his media commitments, has spoken with Roos about the role.
While Roos has signed on, the Demons have yet to confirm whether they have locked in chief executive Peter Jackson beyond this year.
