Sunshine library begins a new chapter at McCracken Street

The Sunshine library and customer service centre will move next month to make way for a new $52 million Brimbank civic centre.

The Hampshire Road library closes operations on August 3 and reopens in McCracken Street on August 11.

The customer service centre will close on August 1 and reopen on August 4 in the Sunshine municipal offices along Alexandra Avenue.

“While the relocated Sunshine library space is slightly smaller than the current library, it can adequately house the collection and related services, and library customers will be able to enjoy similar services,” Brimbank administrators chairman John Watson said. “Continuing to deliver quality services while our new community and civic centre is being constructed is a priority for us.”

Construction on the new civic centre is to begin mid-September, with the building expected to open in mid-2016.

The seven-storey centre will centralise council operations at one site and include a new library over two levels. The council now has two municipal offices: in Sunshine and Keilor.

The new centre will also raise revenue by housing tenants on floors two through six
