A woman has been charged following an armed robbery at a Footscray jewellery store on Wednesday.
The store owner was rendered unconscious after being injected with a syringe during the robbery.
The woman, 37, from Ardeer, allegedly entered the Byron Street store in the west Melbourne suburb at 5.30pm.
Police said the store owner was injected with a syringe containing an unknown substance and lost consciousness while the burglar stole a large amount of cash and jewellery before running from the shop.
The store owner, aged 63, woke several hours after the incident and phoned a family member.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said the shop owner did not require hospitalisation and he was undergoing tests to determine what was injected into him.
It is believed the burglar dropped one of the bags that was stolen from the shop. Detectives believe the bag contains a “large amount of cash” and “valuable jewellery” and are seeking public assistance in locating it.
