Derrimut: Charges after woman hurt in car, semi-trailer crash

UPDATE: Police have charged a Fitzroy man following a two-car collision on Boundary Road in Derrimut on Wednesday.

The crash occurred about 12.45pm when the Ford Escape and truck collided head-on.

The Ford driver, a 51-year-old Derrimut woman, was trapped in her car for about 40 minutes and taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 49-year-old truck driver, Wirihana Tatana  from Fitzroy, was charged on Wednesday night over the collision and was refused bail by an after-hours magistrate. 

Mr Tatana will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning on charges of dangerous driving causing serious injury, possessing a drug of dependence and driving whilst licence suspended. 

The court will also hear matters surrounding his two outstanding warrants for traffic-related offences.
