Kangaroos stalwart Jono Frost joins 300th milestone club

There are few things Jono Frost hasn’t achieved in his football career at Sunshine.

Last week, the ever-reliable utility added yet another impressive layer to his resume when he ran out for the 300th time with the Kangaroos.

After playing his junior football at Albion, Frost made the move to Lily Street just before he started in the seniors and hasn’t looked back.

“When I finished under-16s I joined Sunshine,” Frost said.

“I played senior footy there for a while then left in 2009 to play somewhere else and then I went back there because it’s such a great club.

“I have a lot of great mates there and it’s just a great place to play footy. It’s a family club.”

Frost listed playing in two senior preliminary finals and playing in a reserves premiership in 2009 among his on-field highlights with the Kangaroos.

But after filling a variety of roles throughout his career, the 32-year-old said he was happy to play anywhere. “When I first started I was playing up forward or on the wing. Now I have gone down back,” he said.

“I just play where I’m told and try and do my role.”

Frost has joined former Sunshine president and fellow 300-game legend Mark Grech in the exclusive milestone club.

Grech said it was a great feeling to have one of his best mates reach the mark.

“I played with him for probably 10-15 years,” he said.

“He’s reliable, he’s fearless, he’s a team player and he’s great at setting up a strong culture for the football club.

“In this day and age, where there are lucrative offers to go elsewhere and Jono probably had those offers five years ago, he has stuck around and put the club first.

“To play 300 games is an amazing effort and a real credit to him.”

Jono may not be the last Frost in a Kangaroo’s jumper if the club has its way.

“We look forward to seeing his son Ayce come through the ranks in the years to come,” Grech said.
