Delahey Community Centre was awash with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colours when the building and surrounds were ‘yarn-stormed’ for NAIDOC Week.
A group of women working on the centre’s Stitch in Time project spent the past four weeks knitting and crocheting pieces that were used to decorate the building’s exterior, poles and surrounding trees. Throughout June, the centre held four knitting and crocheting workshops for the community, each beginning with a story-telling session led by a Wurundjeri elder. “I never thought in all my life I’d be knitting a jumper for a tree,” participant Shirley Moon said.
