Lions on the board

There were plenty of celebrations on Sunday night as Taylors Lakes women’s side enjoyed its first win in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association.

The side had started the season 0-3 along with a number of washouts, but it meant little on Sunday against Point Cook.

The Warriors won the toss and made 6-49 off 10.3 overs.

Cassie Farrugia took 3-10 for the Lions which were career-best figures.

It was a shaky start with the bat for the Lions as they slipped to 2-8.

Co-captain Judi Donovan proved to be the star with the bat as she made 29 off 30 balls, with her experience guiding the side home.

The Lions finished 4-52 off 11.2 overs.

The club said it was delighted to see the women’s side win its first game in front of a big home crowd.

“It was a great team effort, all round,” president Paul Wolf said,

“The team celebrated into the night after a 0-3 start to the year.

“The team is looking forward to the final match, prior to Christmas, next weekend.”

The win moves the Lions off the bottom of the ladder.

The Lions face bottom side Caroline-Burnside Springs this Sunday.

The combined team is yet to win a game.
