Brimbank residents looking to dispose of household items in a safe and environmentally friendly way can attend a free community event in December, and learn about sustainable recycling along the way.
Locals can bring along:
E-waste: anything that plugs in or runs on batteries (TVs or computers)
Batteries: all household types, including toys and appliances with built in batteries
White goods: fridges and freezers
-Solar panels
-Mattresses (no bed bases)
-Soft plastics and polystyrene
-End-of-life textiles: clothing, shoes and bedding not suitable for donation
-Pots, pans
There will also be free services and activities on the day including electrical repair assessments, safety checks and educational displays.
The community recycling day has been organised by Brimbank council which has engaged local e-waste recycling specialists ReSource for the event.
ReSource business development manager Conor Mackey encouraged locals to bring in their unwanted items that are still usable too.
“If any customer has any laptops or computers… we will sanitise them of any data and if they also hold resale value we’ll hold onto them and keep it in circulation longer,” Mr Mackey said.
“If [locals] feel the product is unusable, we can alter or refurbish that.”
The e-waste community recycling day will run from 10am-3pm at the Victoria University car park, University Boulevard, St Albans on Saturday 6 December.
