Family escapes Burnside fire

A family of six escaped a large house fire at Fydler Avenue, Burnside, early on morning on Friday 24 October, which Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) said was thanks to their working smoke alarms.

Firefighters were called to the incident at 2.56am to find significant smoke and flames issuing from a single-storey brick house.

The incident was declared under control at 3.31am, 35 minutes after FRV arrived on scene.

The fire was contained to the building of origin, however the house sustained significant damage in the fire.

Two patients suffered burns to their hands and were transferred into the care of paramedics.

The cause of the fire is deemed to have originated in a clothes dryer.
