Model train club on the right track

It’s full steam ahead for the Sunshine Railway Model Club as it gears up to host its annual model train show over the first weekend of August.

Sunshine Railway Model Club vice president Joe Saliba said there will be a large number of moving train models and displays of many different sizes on show.

Mr Saliba, who has been a member of the club since 1996, said he fell in love with trains at a young age.

“I used to build lego trains when I was little and now I’m actually playing with them in real life,” he said.

He enjoys working on the electrical wiring of the train display layouts the most.

“[The wiring] can cause a lot of problems. That’s part of the passion,” he said.

“I just love seeing what I built come to life, just seeing something that works. It’s like you’re fixing your car and you’re seeing it work.”

Mr Salibasaid one of his favourite displays is a 10m long x 1.2 m long WWII scene that he put together with three other friends.

“It’s all in black, white and grey so it looks like a war village,” he said.

The annual model train show will be held at Braybrook Secondary College sports stadium on Burke Street from 9.30 to 5pm on Saturday, August 2 and 9.30 to 4pm on Sunday, August 3.

“Please come and see, and be part of the fun over here…no question is too silly!” said Mr Saliba.
