A range of winter events are set to warm up the west this month, with food, exhibitions, and live performances offering respite from the chilly outdoor conditions.
Hilarious and empowering show ‘The Musical’ – based on the 1980 film and with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton – will be performed across various sessions at the Altona City Theatre on Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19.

Also in Altona, Louis Joel Gallery is hosting a group exhibition curated by Jasmeet Kaur Sahi and featuring local artists, presenting media including ceramics, photography, painting, sculpture, and film. The final day of the exhibition will be held on Wednesday, July 16.
In Melton, a free Winter Disco featuring complimentary food, bowling, arcade games, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, and karaoke – set to a frosty, disco theme – will be held from 3–6pm on Friday, July 18 at Xplosions Bar and Bowl. Booking details are available on the Melton council website.
Singer-songwriter stalwart Shannon Noll – also known as ‘Nollsie’ – will be dropping in to Melton for a performance at Mac’s Hotel from 8pm on Friday, July 25 and tickets available on the venue’s website.
Broomsticks will touch down in Plumpton for a Harry Potter and Hogwarts-inspired dinner at Witchmount Estate’s Great Hall from 7pm on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26, aimed at those aged 16 years and older.
For the younger crowd who would like to enter the world of witchcraft and wizardry, Witchmount will also host a Harry Potter-inspired High Tea from 11.30–2pm and another at 3pm–5.30pm on Saturday, July 26. Details for both events are available on Witchmount’s website.
A vibrant local market of small businesses, handmade goods, and delicious food, the Sunshine Collective Market will run from 10am–3pm on Saturday, July 26 at the Westend Market Hotel. Pets are welcome at this event.
Another event for the theatre fans – a world-premiere of gripping new production ‘The Yellow Line’ inspired by true events at Port Phillip Prison is set to run from July 26-27 at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. The story follows a Pasifika guard who teaches haka to inmates, uncovering truths about identity, justice, and redemption, with the work exploring whether culture and connection can break the cycle of incarceration.
