A body was found floating in the water at Altona beach on Monday morning.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the body was found near the end of Millers Road about 7.30am.
The body is yet to be identified and the cause of death is unknown, the spokeswoman said.
The investigation is ongoing.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
