HAWTHORN: Razor blades found at training session

Hawthorn’s final training session ahead of the grand final was nearly jeopardised when two parts of a razor blade were found on the Waverley Park surface before training on Thursday.

Hawks staff members were forced to sweep the ground prior to the session to ensure the ground was safe for players to train on.

Satisfied there was nothing else which could have harmed players or staff, the session went ahead.

“When the objects were found, staff and security took immediate action to sweep the oval before the players took the field to ensure the surface was safe,” Hawthorn CEO Stuart Fox said.

“We are fortunate no one was hurt, and I commend staff and security for acting quickly to protect out players and patrons.”

It was the Hawks’ final major session before Saturday’s decider.

Soon after, Cyril Rioli and Ben McEvoy were named in the team, replacing Jonathan Simpkin and Jonathon Ceglar.
