September in Melbourne’s west is packed with activities for all ages as the school holidays approach, offering a mix of cultural celebrations, family fun, and exciting events.

Lights, camera, action at Yarraville’s Sun Theatre, as Melbourne Fringe Festival approaches, the theatre and Yarraville Village will be buzzing with excitement.

At the Bowery Theatre in St Albans, delve into the world of art with Emma Winkler’s exhibition Shadow Puppets opens on September 11 and will stay around until November 9.

Theatre lovers can also enjoy All That Glitters, a fresh production by Edge Ensembles on September 14.

Join local winemaker Laura Sparrow and Living Koko creative genius Phoebe Preus for an evening of indulgence and rich storytelling at Witchmount Estate Winery on Friday, September 20 September at 557 Leakes Rd, Plumpton.

The Vietnamese Lantern Festival lights up RT Pollard Gardens in Sunshine on September 22, offering a vibrant cultural celebration for the whole community.

Art enthusiasts can also check out the Incinerator Art Award at the Incinerator Gallery in Aberfeldie from September 13, an exhibition showcasing art for social change.

Rounding out the month, don’t miss the Melbourne Royal Show, running from September 26 to October 6.

With farm experiences, thrilling rides, and spectacular nightly fireworks, it’s a must-visit for families. Finally, budding scientists can unleash their curiosity at Scienceworks’ Science is a Superpower Festival on September 14 and 15, featuring interactive experiments and workshops designed to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Right around the corner too is the Fringe Westside, which promises an exciting lineup at venues such as Kindred Studios and Footscray Arts.

Check out events at Kindred Studios, Bluestone Arts Space, Footscray Arts, Mamma Chens, Pride of Our Footscray, a “secret location in Newport”, The Substation, the Clocktower Centre, and a magical, free outdoor event Free Fairy Floss, created especially for Maddern Square Footscray, from October 1 through til October 20.
