Harold Mitchell AC to be honoured

Victorians statewide, including those in Brimbank are being invited to recognise the remarkable life of Harold Mitchell AC at a State Memorial Service.

Held at 10:30am on Monday, May 13 at Hamer Hall in Melbourne, to celebrate the remarkable life of philanthropist and media industry icon Harold Mitchell AC.

Registrations to attend the memorial, taking place on what would have been his 82nd birthday, are now open and registration is free.

Harold Mitchell’s influence in shaping Australia’s modern media and advertising industry is unmatched, but his success in business was always driven by a desire to give to others.

Through the Harold Mitchell Foundation, he gave wholeheartedly to arts, sport, health, and education, both in Australia and abroad.

As a generous fan of the arts, Harold Mitchell contributed to the Malthouse Theatre, Opera Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Museums Victoria, and the New York Philharmonic.

Premier Jacinta Allan said Mr Mitchell was a special Australian who deserved a state memorial.

“Harold Mitchell was a boy from the Stawell bush who led an extraordinary life, and achieved some pretty remarkable things,” she said.

“Harold inspired change, he led with compassion and enormous generosity. His legacy is found in the causes he championed, and the modern Australia he helped to create.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Harold Mitchell’s name to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation via donate.acrf.com.au/fundraisers/HM

The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend.
