West Gate Bridge truck fire

A truck fire on the Westgate Freeway near the Bolte Bridge exit, citybound, is causing traffic delays this afternoon.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) said there have been multiple calls about the incident, which was attended to by 16 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus because of heavy smoke.

Traffic Management Systems are in place to assist with traffic control, however the incident is ongoing and will cause traffic delays.

FRV said access to the fire was problematic due to the build up of traffic, but crews arrived on scene within nine minutes.

One member of the public suffered an injury due to a piece of shrapnel exploding from the truck while on fire.

Police and Ambulance Victoria responded to assist.
