Residents across Brimbank, Wyndham, Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong are being warned to look out for smoke coming from a factory fire in Laverton North.
Firefighters are currently battling the blaze at a recycling facility in Plummer Avenue.
Emergency services arrived at the scene at about 1.50pm this afternoon to find a large amount of metal recycling material on fire.
Authorities say there is no threat to the community and no action is required, but are warning residents in surrounding suburbs that they may smell smoke and to avoid the area.
Suburbs affected include Laverton North, Laverton, Truganina, Altona, Spotswood, Williamstown, Footscray, Sunshine, Newport and Yarraville.
