Football Australia has revised the start time frame for a new National Second Tier competition, with the competition now set to start in 2025. The competition had been set to start in 2024. This updated schedule will not only facilitate the finalisation of the competition structure but also grants all stakeholders sufficient time to finalise all logistical, regulatory, and operational aspects to guarantee a successful inauguration of the competition. Melbourne Knights and Green Gully are two clubs that have been still part of the process. Football Australia recently completed the third phase of the planning.
