EDFL: Keilor and Taylors Lakes booted out of finals

Keilor’s Essendon District Football League season came to a crashing halt on Sunday, with the Blues on the end of an 87-point smashing by Aberfeldie.

The Blues went into the premier division elimination final at Windy Hill as underdogs after being comprehensively beaten by Aberfeldie twice during the home-and-away season.

Again, Keilor was unable to come up with a formula to stop the Abers.

The Blues conceded 21 goals, with the club’s back six placed under immense pressure throughout the game.

There was no respite at the other end of the ground, with Keilor’s forwards struggling to string goals together.

The 21.9 (135) to 7.6 (48) loss ended the Blues’ hopes of winning their first premiership since 2008.

On what was a tough day for his club, experienced Keilor player Dylan Joyce worked hard to be named among the Blues’ best.

Ryan Bathie was Keilor’s most successful forward with three goals, while Andrew Browne fought hard to try keep his side in the match.

There was no stopping the Abers, though. They had an answer for everything the Blues threw at them.

Aberfeldie will take on Avondale Heights in Saturday’s preliminary final.

Strathmore is already through to the grand final after beating Heights by 20 points on Saturday.

Another side to have its EDFL season ended at the weekend was Taylors Lakes.

The Lions proved no match for West Coburg, going down by 46 points in Sunday’s preliminary final.

The 17.7 (109) to 9.9 (63) win allowed West Coburg to progress to Sunday’s division 1 grand final against Tullamarine.

East Keilor will meet Roxburgh Park in the division 2 decider.

The Magpies won their way into the biggest game of the year after a thrilling win against Coburg Districts, 12.9 (81) to 11.14 (80).

The grand final will be played at Windy Hill at 2.15pm this Saturday.
