Seven teenagers have been charged following a pursuit and crash in Cairnlea in the early hours of Monday, June 19.
It is alleged police spotted a Toyota Prado speeding through roadworks on the Western Ring Road at about 1am.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but it sped off.
The Prado was later involved in a collision with a Holden Commodore at the Ballarat Road off ramp.
The driver, a 19-year-old Wyndham Vale male, who ran from the collision, was arrested a short time later and has now been charged with a string of offences including:
– Dangerous driving whilst pursued by police
– Theft of motor vehicle
– Drive manner dangerous
– Drive speed dangerous
– Reckless conduct endangering life
– Handle stolen goods
– Unlicenced driving
– Careless driving
– Exceed speed limit by greater than 45km/h
– Fail to stop vehicle after accident
– Possess controlled weapon
– Commit indictable offence whilst on bail
– Contravene a conduct condition of bail
He was remanded to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Six teenage males, who were passengers of the vehicle, were also arrested at the scene.
Two 16-year-olds from Truganina, two 17-year-olds, one from Tarneit and one from Trugania, and two 15-year-old males from Truganina have been charged with theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, possess controlled weapon and other related offences.
They are due to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
