Man in court over possession of four firearms

Police have charged a man with firearm related offences after finding four firearms, weapons and ammunition during a warrant search in Albion.

North West Metro Regional Crime Squad detectives executed the warrant in Albion on Monday morning and seized the weapons identified below.

• Four firearms, including a replica AK 47, a semi-automatic pistol, a sawn off shot gun and a cut down rifle

• Two bags of gun powder

• Ammunition, .22 calibre and one shotgun shell

• Two large knives

• Compound bow and three arrows

• Firearm stock and barrel

The 22-year-old Albion man has been charged with possessing a traffickable quantity of firearms, explosive substance and ammunition

“The possession of firearms by unregistered or unlicenced people is a considerable concern for police and we will do everything we can to disarm them.”

“We take these investigations extremely seriously in order to prevent the potential for greater harm to the community when they are misused.”

“We strongly encourage anyone with knowledge or suspicions about someone in possession of a firearm to report the information to Crime Stoppers,” said North West Metro Regional Crime Detective Inspector Patrick Watkinson:

He is expected to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
