Western United locked in a top two spot in the A-League Women’s competition with two matches remaining. United in its inaugural season has stunned many observers with its first season and the success it has had so far. A top two spot guarantees a double chance in the opening week of finals. United was set to face Canberra on the weekend, after deadline.

The City West Falcons opened its account with a big win against the Peninsula Waves in the Victorian Netball League championship division. After a loss in round one in the grand final rematch, the Falcons were too strong for the Waves, winning 86-44. Jane Cook scored 48 goals, while Maddy Gray scored 21 and Uneeq Palavi scored 16 goals. The Falcons face the Hawks this week.

Coates Talent League

Western Jets Rook Barry was one of the stars at the recent Coates Talent League Boys testing day ahead of the commencement of the 2023 season. Players from the 12 Victorian programs featured in a range of testing, which included the standing vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20m sprint, agility test and yo-yo test. Barry, whose local club is the Yarraville Seddon Eagles, was quickest on the 20m sprint, with a time of 2.845 seconds.

WRFL

Bob Tregear has been appointed the Western Region Football League’s interim chief executive until a new appointment is made. Tregear has stepped into the role after the league and recently appointed chief executive Ritchie Hinton decided to part ways. Since retiring as WRFL chief executive in 2017, Tregear has maintained his strong connection through supporting the board on governance matters and through involvement in special projects. Further information on the chief executive appointment process will be provided at a later date.
