Some of Keilor regions most famous sites will be on show to the community.

The Heritage Sites in Keilor event is a joint event by the Overnewton Castle and the Keilor Historical Society in which residents can explore some of the most significant heritage sites in Keilor.

In the morning, people can tour Overnewton Castle with the gardens open, along with the chapel and the six room colonial homestead.

Then in the afternoon, Harrick’s Cottage and Police Hut will be open. There will be an exhibition detailing the history of the sites, while there will be Melbourne Airport land historical displays.

It’s the first time the two organisations have had a joint open day.

Keilor Historical Society president Susan Jennison said it was good to have the opportunity to show the history of the area.

“It is great to show some of the highlights of the Keilor region and what is going on,” she said.

“We used to have yearly openings but COVID interrupted all that stuff. The last one we had was last year when the pre-fab police hut was opened.”

Overnewton Castle will be open between 10am-12pm on April 16 and Harrick’s Cottage and Police Hut will be open between 12pm-5pm.
