A pop-up blood donation centre will be in Sunshine in early April.

With one in three people in Sunshine needing blood during their lives, according to the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood the organisation is encouraging people to donate.

The blood donor centre will be open from April 11-15 at the Croatian Catholic Centre, 22 Fitzgerald Road, Sunshine West

The centre will be open 12.30pm-8pm on the Tuesday, 12pm-8pm on the Wednesday and Thursday, before being open from 8am to 3pm on the Friday and Saturday.

If you’re a donor, or organising a Lifeblood Team, or donating for the first time, you’re encouraged to book your spot beforehand.

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood collects around 1.5 million blood donations every year. It put a call out for people to donate through the Easter period.

Healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 75 years that meet donation eligibility criteria may be able to donate to Lifeblood.

Most of this is used to help people with medical conditions that require blood or blood products regularly.

More than 30 per cent of donated red blood cells are used to help treat people with cancer and blood diseases.

Medical researchers also need donated blood in order to develop and test new treatments for many medical conditions.
