Rain plays havoc again

Rain again played havoc in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 competition.

The last of the pool matches were scheduled for Tuesday night, having been postponed from before Christmas due to the weather.

Matches started in the heat, but were soon brought to a close when heavy rain hit Melbourne later in the night.

West Coburg was on top of Tullamarine in their match when it was called off and declared a draw.

West Coburg made 4-148 from its overs, with the Demons sharing the wickets around. All but one Demons player had a bowl.

The Demons were 7-82 in the 14th over when the rain hit.

The one point from the draw was enough for West Coburg to finish on top of the Simpson pool and head through to the next round.

PEGS ‘match with Westmeadows also finished early, but PEGS claimed the win.

PEGS made 5-134 from its overs with Pishan Hewage top scoring with 42 at the top of the order.

Aaron Evans took two wickets for the Warriors.

The Warriors were 4-61 when play stopped with Husnain Arshad 25 not out at the time.

The result was enough for PEGS to finish on the top of its pool.

Haig Fawkner, which had already secured top spot in its pool, beat the Greenvale Kangaroos.

The Kangaroos were bowled out for just 44. Dananjaya Fernando top scored with 18, while there were also 18 extras.

The rest of the batters scored eight between them.

Haig quickly made the runs, finishing 3-45 in 8.1 overs.

Williamstown CYMS and Gellibrand were also set to play on Tuesday night, but no results have been entered.

Sunbury, Jacana, Yarraville Club, Sunshine, the Druids, Werribee Centrals, Point Cook, Maribyrnong Park St Marys, Sanctuary Lakes, Deer Park, Sydenham-Hillside and St Francis de Sales are the other teams through to the finals.
