Crossing removal ahead of schedule

The Mt Derrimut Road level crossing in Deer Park will be removed by July – a year ahead of schedule.

A 1.2-kilometre elevated rail bridge will replace the level crossing, while a transport hub will be built to give commuters access to buses, trains and car parking.

The state government said that combined with the recent removal of level crossings at Fitzgerald Road and Robinsons Road, the project will make the Geelong and Ballarat lines level crossing free between Deer Park and the city.

The removal of the level crossing at Mt Derrimut Road will ease delays for the 23,000 vehicles that pass through each day, the government said.

Transport and Infrastructure Jacinta Allan said: “This dangerous level crossing at Mt Derrimut Rd has affected people, trains and traffic with collisions, near misses and congestions – we’re thrilled it’s going to be gone for good”.
