WOORI YALLOCK: Pub destroyed by fire

A popular Yarra Ranges pub was reduced to rubble after a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The fire at Woori Yallock Hotel was well alight when Country Fire Authority firefighters arrived at 3.15am.

The timber pub with a corrugated iron roof, known as the “Woori”, collapsed under the weight of the fire, operations officer Stuart Walker said.

The hotel was believed to have been about 60 years old.

Mr Walker said the fire took over an hour to put out. He said the fire was difficult to contain because there was insufficient water at the site.

Firefighters were forced to pump water from a fire hydrant 500 metres away. It took 20 fire vehicles to put the fire out.
