The tough run of form continues for the Sunshine Eagles in the Baseball Victoria Summer League division 1 competition. Facing Malvern on Tuesday night in their mid-week clash, the Eagles lost 5-4 at Malvern’s home ground. The Eagles were sitting bottom of the table after 10 rounds with just two wins for the season. The Eagles were set to be back in action on Saturday night against Mulgrave, after deadline.

A-League

Western United has signed its first Tasmania player for its A-League women’s side. Aimee Medwin joins the club on a scholarship contract, having returned to Australia from playing soccer in college in America. Medwin said she was excited to play alongside such an amazingly talented and motivated group of players and coaches at Western United. She made her A-League debut for Melbourne City in the 2018-19 season. Coach Mark Torcaso said Medwin adds to the list of young talent in the squad who will hope to break through in the Liberty A-League this season.

NPL

The Melbourne Knights have welcomed back defender Corey Sewell for next year’s National Premier League season. Sewell returns to the club having spent the last three years at the Bentleigh Greens. In 2022, Sewell was crowned as the Greens players’ player in a season that included a Dockerty Cup win and run to the Australia Cup round of 16.

AFLW

Former Essendon District Football League umpire Thomas Chrystie has been recognised at the AFLW awards. Chrystie was named the field umpire of the AFLW All-Australian team of the year, one of three umpires named in the AFLW All-Australian panel. He was also selected to umpire the AFLW grand final between the Brisbane Lions and Melbourne on the weekend.
