Environment Protection Authority authorised officers will be inspecting businesses across Sunshine and Williamstown, addressing priority risks of harm, starting Monday, November 28.
These inspections are to ensure they are complying with the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the general environmental duty. Under the act, responsibility for preventing harm to waterways rests with anyone in management or control of an activity that may give rise to risks of harm.
There are requirements to understand your environmental impact. As a business that poses potential risks to waterways, you must take reasonable steps to reduce: the risk of spills, the risk of leaks and other reportable offences in your operation.
