The Keilor Sports Club will be able to add to its redevelopment fund regardless of whether a Labor or Liberal state government is elected on November 26.

On Friday, November 11, the Liberal Party announced $1 million towards the redevelopment of the club. It followed a $700,000 pledge from Labor on November 7.

As reported by Star Weekly, the club received $50,000 in the 2022-23 Brimbank council budget to design and cost the redevelopment of the Joe Brown Reserve facility.

Liberal candidate for Niddrie, Alan Youhana, said the redevelopment would benefit users of the sports club.

“I remember my son playing at Keilor Football Club and the joy on kids’ faces when out on the oval, but this was overshadowed by the club’s inability to hold functions due to ageing infrastructure and lack of amenities,” he said.

“I am passionate about sport and understand how participation shapes the development of kids as they grow and enter adulthood. It’s the friendships that they build through their sporting club that stays with them the longest.”

Niddrie Labor MP Ben Carroll said the clubrooms were originally built in 1986 and were in need of a “big upgrade”.

“Local sporting clubs are the heart of Keilor – they bring communities and families together, with KSC organising cricket, football, athletics and life activities,” he said.

Both funding pledges have been welcomed by the sports club.
