Consistency with the bat is the key going forward for the Sunshine Eagles in the Baseball Victoria summer league division 1.
The Eagles have won two of their first five matches, but have been in every game but until to find the winning runs.
On Tuesday night, the Eagles lost to Moorabbin 4-1 in the first of their mid week games.
Coach Cam Deeble said they continue to show good signs, including a 13-3 win in their game against the Melbourne Demons, but they aren’t converting their opportunities on a regular basis.
“It was a good game [against Moorabbin], but we didn’t capitalise when we had base runners,” he said.
“There were some promising signs though and on the weekend we showed good form with a big win there.”
Deeble said the pitching trio of Justin Revels, Jeremey Young and Griffin Weir had been pitching really strongly throughout the season.
He said it was their hitting where they could take it up another level.
“We’ve struggled at times with our hitting,” he said. “We’re hitting well, but it’s now about hitting at the right time.
“Hopefully the bats can start doing that and can hit a bit of form and get a couple more wins on the board which would be good.”
Deeble said there were a couple of younger players who were playing key roles in their senior line up this season.
He highlighted the performances of Josh Byrne and Connor Hughes saying both were keys in the main line up.
Both have already hit home runs this season.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday against Blackburn.
It’s the second time the teams have played this season.
“We played them a couple of weeks ago,” Deeble said.
“Last time we lost 6-4 so it will be a good challenge for us to face them again.”
