The Level Crossing Removal Project team have installed eight giant sections of the revamped Deer Park station as part of the Mt Derrimut Road Level Crossing Removal Project.

Two cranes were on site recently to deliver and install the eight Super T-beams in stages, with each beam weighing about 40 tonnes.

The beams would support the new 1.2 kilometre rail bridge across the elevated station platforms above a pedestrian walkway connecting commuters to the station from both sides of the rail line.

The raised platforms at 5.4 metres above Mt Derrimut Road would be accessible via lifts, stairs and ramps.

Made from pre-cast concrete, six of the beams weighed 44 tonnes each and were 21.4 metres long, while two of the beams were 40 tonnes each and were 23.5 metres long.

The work took place across two nights to minimise disruption to road users on Mt Derrimut Road and Tilburn Road.

Construction crews have passed the halfway point towards completing the 58 foundation piles, which are created by drilling holes up to 8.3 metres deep to form the base of concrete columns to support the Super-T beams, station buildings and the concrete troughs housing the train tracks.

Scheduled for completion in 2024, the project would deliver an updated Deer Park station, featuring a bus interchange, pedestrian and cycling paths and upgraded passenger facilities, including a waiting room, bathrooms and secure bike parking.

The Level Crossing Removal Project team have also removed level crossings at Robinsons Road in Deer Park in Septembr and at Fitzgerald Road in Ardeer in July.

Upon completion of the Mt Derrimut Road project, the Geelong and Ballarat lines would be level crossing free between Deer Park and the CBD.
