Six arrested after alleged assault

Police have today (Tuesday, August 30) arrested six people, including a Sunshine West man, as part of their investigation into a serious assault allegedly linked to the Nomads Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) in Laverton North last month.

Warrants were executed at properties in Point Cook, Truganina, Sunshine West, Williamstown and Canadian from 5.30am this morning.

A 34-year-old Point Cook man, believed by police to be a patched member of the Nomads OMCG, and a 29-year-old Truganina man, who police believe is a vice president of the Nomads OMCG, were arrested.

The others taken into custody were a 24-year-old Sunshine West man, a 24-year-old Williamstown man, and a 26-year-old Canadian national.

All have alleged links to the Nomads OMCG.

Police also arrested a 30-year-old Delacombe man.

All six are being interviewed by police and are expected to be charged with offences including intentionally cause serious injury in circumstances of gross violence.

They will likely face the Melbourne Magistrates Court later today.

The arrests follow an incident on Thursday, July 28, during which a 36-year-old Point Cook man, believed by police to be a former chapter president of the Nomads OMCG, was seriously assaulted outside the clubhouse on Weddel Court, Laverton North.

Police say at about 12.30pm that day, the victim was allegedly confronted by a group of men and subsequently assaulted with blunt objects.

After the incident, he managed to drive from the scene in his own vehicle and was later admitted to The Alfred Hospital with serious injuries.

Anyone who has further information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
