Keilor Thunder is looking to rebuild for next season following its elimination final loss to Knox Raiders in NBL1.
Thunder coach Liam Glascott said the team has identified a few areas where it can improve.
“From a recruitment process obviously we’ll be re-signing guys, then working out what we need to fill gaps and take the next step up,” he said.
There’s been a lot of close calls for the Thunder this season but they’ve been just behind the mark in a number of cases.
A Mid-season game with Sandringham saw them in front for the most part and then losing the ball in the last two and a half minutes of game time.
“There’s been a handful of those games, but I think our back end is getting a lot better. We were on a nine or 10-game losing streak close to the middle of the season but got back on track,” Glascott said.
Achieving their coaching goal of eight to 10 wins this year, Glascott said it was still a good achievement for their first season.
Expectations have been set for the next season with the team focussing on developing a roster that will take it to the next level.
“We’ve obviously got some verbal commitments out of guys, we just have to physically put contracts in front of them and make that all happen,” Glascott said.
Valued player Zac Triplett joined five games at the end of season up until injury.
“[Filling that gap] took a bit longer than we wanted it to, but like I said, I think at the back end of the season we were a lot better,” Glascot said.
The Thunder will be reviewing the men’s program in preparation for next season as well as the womens, hoping to hold onto crowd favourite Maddie Garrick.
