Deer Park further cemented its finals spot after beating Yarraville Seddon in the Western Region Football League division 1. The Lions trailed by seven points at half time before kicking eight goals to two in the second half to seal the 11.18 (84)-7.13 (55) win. Levi Greenwood was the Lions’best. The Lions sit in fourth spot but are now two games clear of fifth and sixth. In other results, St Albans lost to Hoppers Crossing, Sunshine was competitive against Spotwood, while Caroline Springs beat Werribee Districts.

There was more heartbreak for Taylors Lakes in the Essendon District Football League division 2 competition. Having already lost a number of thrillers this season, the Lions lost to Hadfield on Saturday after the siren, 9.13 (67)-10.5 (65). The Lions had led at every break in the loss. Meanwhile in division 2, Burnside Heights lost to Keilor Park, 14.12 (96)-13.8 (86). In premier division, Keilor beat Essendon Doutta Stars, 14.10 (94)-5.4 (34).

The Keilor Thunder gave up a three quarter time lead to lose to the Sandringham Sabres on Saturday night in the National Basketball League 1 South men’s competition. The Thunder led by eight points heading into the final 10 minutes of the game, but weren’t able to hold on as the Sabres scored 37-20 in the final quarter to win 89-80. Jacob Lampkin top scored for the Thunder with 18 points. The Thunder women lost 92-82. Maddie Garrick top scored with 23 points.

Calder United continued its good form in the National Premier League Women’s competition on Saturday. Calder beat Heidelberg United 2-1 with Emma Robers and Alana Cerne scoring for Calder in the top of the table clash. The win puts Calder back on top with a game in hand on Heidelberg United. Calder will be going for glory on Sunday in the final of the Nike F.C Cup against South Melbourne.
