Forty years ago

Hordes of redback spiders are invading Sunshine. And parents fear for the safety of their children. Sunshine council’s senior health inspector, Ray Davies, has already had numerous calls from residents who have seen the spiders on their properties. To date there have been no report of people being bitten by the redbacks.

Thirty years ago

Aeroplanes, cattle and people make up the primary interests of Uniting Church minister Reverend Malcolm Hay. He has an amazingly varied background and is now helping scores of Sunshine people run their lives. The people are invariably poor, working-class, jobless Australians and migrants, who are having trouble holding their marriages together, with the threat of creditors hanging over their heads.
