Hazardous intersection upgraded
A section of Melton Highway at Taylors Lakes will undergo safety works costing $1.12 million as part of an $8.5 million package of road improvements for three Melton Highway intersections: McCubbin Drive, Sydenham Road and Overton Lea Boulevard. In five years to December 2013, 30 casualty crashes were recorded at the intersections; 11 resulted in serious injury, 18 were rear-end crashes and 15 occurred at dusk or night.
Man on drugs, weapon charges
A 27-year-old Sunshine man has been arrested after police allegedly discovered heroin, ice and an imitation firearm at a Morris Street house last week. Brimbank drug reduction team officers executed a search warrant, allegedly finding an amount of vacuum-sealed heroin, drugs alleged to be ice, two heroin presses, cash and the imitation handgun. Truong Luu was arrested at the scene, charged with possessing crime proceeds and a drug of dependence. He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court tomorrow.
