Brimbank council has moved improvements to Brimbank Park and Organ Pipes National Park to the forefront after making a bid to the State Government to intervene in maintenance and safety issues at the park.
Councillor Virginia Tachos moved a notice a motion at council’s meeting on Tuesday, April 19 calling for council to write to Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio to:
* Highlight the communities’ ongoing concerns with the lack of maintenance and development of both Brimbank Park and Organ Pipes National Park due to a lack of investment by the State Government and Parks Victoria; and
* Seek the Minister’s intervention to:
* Resolve urgent maintenance and safety issues at Brimbank Park and Organ Pipes National Park; and
* Develop, in consultation with Council and the community, master plans for both Brimbank Park and Organ Pipes National Park to establish an agreed vision and strategic directions for the future development and investment for both parks as key destinations for the local community and tourists.
Cr Tachos said the parks were “unpolished gems” and the council had been calling for meetings with the Parks Victoria board.
“To date, a lot of promises have been made,” she said.
“We’ve asked for everything from better signage, better facilities, better amenities, activation, Indigenous education programs, management of dogs on sites to a whole range of other things.”
